It's been two years since I wrote Slick. My first romance novel, self-doubt set in and I let it sit for a loooong time before feeling inspired to pick it back up again and read through it, just to see if it was as awful as I thought it was.
Guess what? It wasn't. Sure, the book still needs a lot of work. I have to incorporate more senses and flesh out some of the characters, but there is a story there. So to keep me inspired through the editing process (on hold until December while I outline and write my second romance novel, More Than Words), I went ahead and ordered some book covers to remind me of the end goal.
It's been a great inspiration to see the cover of my books staring back at me, and will certainly help me persevere through NaNoWriMo. If you've never participated in NaNoWriMo, it is a challenge to write a book in a month (National Novel Writing Month), and it's a hell of a ride. I've finished once (five years ago, non-romance), and finished another book that I started during NaNo, which ended up taking a few months to complete (what eventually became Slick). This year I'm tackling romance again. I hope to complete the book within a month but more than that, I hope to complete a story that will entertain my readers when released.
